Introduction
As you’re reading this you are probably at the karaoke bar itching to get up or you’re looking for a new song to sing rather than reverting to the same songs you do every time, but there’s one problem, you don’t know what to sing.
When put on the spot it’s easy for our minds to draw blanks and forget the songs we know and love. In this article, I’m going to share some of the tips and tricks I’ve used in the past to help me find inspiration and ultimately find the perfect song to belt out at karaoke.
Spotify
I think it’s safe to say that the majority of you readers out there have a subscription to Spotify, when I’m in a jam and don’t know what to sing I revert to my most played playlists for inspiration.
Most of the time these are songs I play at work, at home, at the gym, and in the car so I have a pretty good grasp of the songs already. If I need to have a preview of the lyrics also then Spotify has me covered, every song on Spotify has a karaoke-like display for the lyrics which is really easy to access, see the image below.
Browse The Catalogue
Depending on your karaoke supplier you can usually find massive binders of karaoke tracks available laid out on the tables in the venue, sometimes having a flick through these might bring up a song you had completely forgotten about in the moment.
If your KJ (Karaoke Jockey) uses a digital solution like KaraFun then using the online catalogue you can easily scroll through many pre-made playlists sorted by genre and type, and you can also view the most popular songs to sing at karaoke also.
Find Most Popular Karaoke Songs on The Internet
This could be the whole reason you’re reading my blog, hoping for me to spoon-feed you the answers, now I don’t know how well you can sing or what style suits you but what I do know is the most popular songs to sing at karaoke in the UK which I’ve listed below.
For the Boys
- Oasis – Wonderwall
- Neil Diamond – Sweet Caroline
- Killers – Mr. Brightside
- Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire
- Robbie Williams – Angels
For The Girls
- Dolly Parton – 9 to 5
- Mark Ronson Featuring Amy Winehouse – Valerie
- Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
- Spice Girls – Wannabe
- Abba – Dancing Queen
Typically, these are the most popular and crowd favourites that everyone will know but get your request in fast as these songs get snatched up quickly.
Use KaraFun’s Vocal Match
Now, this is pretty cool, in the KaraFun app you can actually sing into your phone, and it will come back with suggestions that match your voice, pretty cool right? Simply follow these steps
- Launch the KaraFun App
- Go to “My Songs”
- Tap the Vocal Match Icon
- You will then need to tap the microphone icon
- Start with your lowest range and progressively change your pitch higher
- Tap “See the Songs”
- Now you will have a list of all the karaoke songs in your range
Conclusion
So, there we have it, I hope this article has helped you on your way to finding the perfect karaoke song to knock the socks off everyone in the venue. Remember next time you sing along to a song in your own time add it to a Spotify playlist called Karaoke then you can always look at that on your next karaoke outing.
